Day 119: The Brown Bag of Bethesda

The Brown Bag

The Brown Bag is another budding restaurant chain started by local Bethesda entrepreneur Erich Fuldner.  Fuldner was one of the founders of another of our favorites, Parker’s Bistro on Bethesda Avenue.  Looking to capitalize on the growing fast-healthy food concept, The Brown Bag is located at 7272 Wisconsin Avenue near the Regal movie theaters and is open breakfast thru late lunch from 7:30 a.m. till 4:00 p.m.  The Brown Bag now has five locations throughout the area (Bethesda, DC (3), and northern Virginia) and is beginning to franchise so get in early on this one!

The breakfast menu includes omelettes, croissants, coffee cake, bagel breakfast sandwiches, and fresh fruit.  The Brown prides itself on letting the customer design their own lunch.  Here you will find sandwiches such as the “Love at First Bite – albacore tuna salad, lettuce, tomato and red onion served on multigrain” and the “Voodoo Chicken Wrap – blackened chicken, black bean corn relish, jack & cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato and ranch dressing wrapped in a chili tortilla.”  I think The Brown Bag really shines in the salad department.  The fresh selection of fruits and vegetables makes this lunch time stop really stand out.

Amazing Salads

I particularly like the options to build your own salad with ingredients you don’t find in other places like, Chick Peas, Tortilla Strips, Scallions, Raisins, Goat Cheese, Dates, Sugared Pecans, Hearts of Palm, and one of Amy’s favorites –Mangoes.  The “Best Stuff” toppings even include Blackened Chicken and Grilled Steak.  Each day The Brown Bag prepares the freshest, healthiest food from scratch, in-house.  These includes all their soups, spreads, dressings and specialty noodle bowl offerings.  Can’t stop by the store?  No problem.  The Brown Bag caters and will bring to your office so the staff can keep on working.  In fact, The Brown Bag reports that 1/3 of its revenue is derived from catering to local businesses.  Stop by and see what may be a national franchise phenomenon before you know it –The Brown Bag.  Yet another hometown Bethesda success story. ~Brian
