Day 137: Finger Lick'n Good Ribs!

BCS Barbecue

On day 4 of our blog I told you about one of my favorite stops for a TMO (Tied me over) the Bethesda Community Store & Deli located at 8804 Old Georgetown Road at the intersection of Old Georgetown Road and Greentree Road near NIH and Suburban Hospital.  Well a few months ago they added a new attraction –a mobile Barbecue stand.  They’ve had a stand here off and on in the past but now the owner of the Store has his own stand called BCS Barbecue.

Barbecue Stand

Curls of smoke billow up from the large metal drums where the red oak hardwood burns to a bright orange.  Over this hot grill you’ll enjoy some tasty herbed smoked chicken, spare ribs, pulled chicken, and pulled pork.  You can buy the smoked chickens whole, half or quartered as well as the spare ribs whole, halved, or individually.  Enjoy tasty sandwiches with all of the above or even lobster and shrimp rolls. If you’re really hungry try a platter with two of the following mouth watering sides including hearty potato salad, baked beans, zesty cole slaw, mac and cheese, spicy red beans and rice, or country corn-bred.

Red Oak Fire Pit!

On my recent visit I talked with Nabil the “grillman” and Celeana his able assistant.  I asked Nabil if he could eat at the Barbecue only once what would he have.  His reply, “Ribs man, all the way.”  The stand is open from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. seven days a week.  You can call (301) 564-1009 to order ahead and pickup. While licking your fingers is always considered poor table manners, the generally accepted exception is eating meat or chicken on the bone (Can you say barbecue chicken and ribs?).  You will have to bring your own finger bowl for rinsing. ~Brian
