Day 172: Twin Springs Fruit Farm

Twin Springs Fruit Farm

Today I stopped by a really nice farmer’s market located in the parking lot of Concord-St. Andrews Church located at the corner of River and Goldsboro Roads.  For over a decade Twin Springs Fruit Farm has been setting up this farmer’s market here and offering some of the Summer’s freshest farm products.  Twin Springs Fruit Farm is located just a few short miles from Gettysburg, PA on over 75 acres of beautiful countryside.  At peak season they make about 15 trips to the Washington, DC area where they sell all their goods in some type of farmer’s market.  The Twin Springs Market is open on Wednesday’s at Concord-St. Andrews from 10-2 nearly all year round.  You can also find Twin Springs at Bethesda & Chevy Chase Y.M.C.A on Old Georgetown Rd. on Thursdays from 10-2 from May – Thanksgiving and Bethesda United Church of Christ at Fernwood & Democracy on Saturdays and the Bethesda Central Farm Market on Elm Street on Sundays.

Amazing Veggies!

While Twin Springs Fruit Farm is not an “organic” farm they have strived to use less pesticides and incorporate “greener” and healthier best farming practices such as integrated pest management and “mating disruption techniques” (sounds like something my children may have learned!).  Today they had a wonderful selection of fruits and vegetables and many of the offerings had samples that were delicious!  There was also a nice selection of fresh baked breads, baked goods, jams and preserves.  Did I mention the free samples?  The market was very lively today and even with the four registers going (they accept VISA and MasterCard) there was a line to pay for the goods.  The longer I waited the more I sampled and the hungrier I got and the more I purchased! ~Brian
