Brian and I were lucky enough to have a sneak peek last week of the new Roti Mediterranean Grill located at 10321 Westlake Drive right next to Westfield Montgomery Mall.  The restaurant opened its first location in Chicago and now they have sprung up in New York, DC, Virginia and Maryland.  Although they have a video story on their website,  I wasn’t sure what “Roti” was all about when we drove up to the very crowded parking lot for this big sneak preview event on March 8th.  My interest was quickly piqued.

Roti Mediterranean Grill has a slogan, “Food that loves you back.”  While it seemed presumptuous of them to assume I would love it, I humbly confess…I love it!

Their focus is on serving freshly made food using healthy ingredients full of tasty spices and complimented with homemade sauces.  Their bread is baked daily and they incorporate things like fresh vegetables, house-made hummus, cous-cous, organic chickpeas and “naturally raised” chicken into their menu.  The flavors were unique and I am looking forward to trying all of their sauces – my favorite this first visit being the dill, yogurt and cucumber sauce.  For those who are embracing the gluten-free lifestyle, Roti has lots of options available for you too.

But what about taste?

Well, they knocked it out of the park for me on taste!  My favorite item was the fresh falafel made with organic chickpeas on their “Noshes” menu.  I always WANT to love falafel but have, in the past, been left with a dry mouth full of tasteless chickpeas.  Well, not at Roti.  Finally, I found moist, tasty falafel (my mouth is watering right now thinking about it).  I may just pop in for a falafel snack to-go on occasion!

The entrees menu includes a choice of wrap or pita sandwiches, salads, rice plates or double chicken kabob plates.  Brian selected the kabob meal and really enjoyed it.  The sauces and spices were terrific as a compliment and we loved the side of flat bread – warm and fresh.  I sound like they are paying me to promote them but I promise you, it’s just my unsolicited opinion…I like the place a lot….ok, ok, I loved it!

What about the price?

We were pleasantly surprised.  The sandwiches were $6.75 and the rice plates and salad plates were $7.75.  Kabobs, $9.00 (check the website for current pricing: Roti Menu).  Not bad, especially for food I enjoyed that didn’t leaving me feeling like I got supersized by eating it!  Service was fabulous when we visited that day.  The staff were friendly, smiling and helpful.  We assume they will remain that way long after the Grand Opening.

One last insider tip: Brian suggests you add a cookie to your entree.  They were positively addicting and a perfect sweet compliment to a nicely spiced meal!
